HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform - Simplifying heterogeneous storage virtualization
This report documents the results of ESG Lab testing of the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform (SVSP) with a focus on the fundamentals of heterogeneous storage virtualization including centralized management, ease of use, thin provisioning, data mobility and capacity-efficient point-in-time snapshots. The enhanced high availability and disaster recovery capabilities of asynchronous remote mirroring are also presented.
EMC CLARiiON CX4 - Modular storage with real TCO impact
This ESG Lab report documents hands-on testing of the CLARiiON CX4 with a focus on major usability and manageability upgrades, UltraFlex modular I/O technology, Enterprise Flash Drive support, Virtual Provisioning, and integrated RecoverPoint replication working in concert with VMware Site Recovery Manager. The CX4 family's ability to optimize virtual server environments using the Navisphere Quality of Service Manager (NQM) and VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) is also examined.
Quantum DXi7500 - Deduplicated backup for the enterprise

3PAR 3cV - Virtual Utility Computing
In the real world, IT must combine hardware, software, and technologies from multiple vendors to solve business problems -- often with great effort and mixed success. First coined by a mutual customer, 3cV is the combination of 3PAR Utility Storage with HP BladeSystem c-Class servers and VMware Infrastructure. The partnership aims to simplify the implementation and integration of these three products into a single IT infrastructure. ESG Lab examined 3cV and evaluated its suitability as a blueprint for utility computing in today's complex and dynamic IT environments.
IBM TS7650G ProtecTIER - Enterprise-class Data De-duplication
The IBM System Storage TS7650G ProtecTIER De-duplication Gateway based on innovative Diligent ProtecTIER technology acquired by IBM in 2008, was designed to deliver the scalability, performance, and ease of use required to meet the data protection needs of midrange and enterprise-class data centers. This ESG Lab Report examines the enhanced ease of use, performance, and fault tolerance of the latest version of ProtecTIER inline de-duplication software running within a clustered pair of IBM TS7650G appliances.
Omneon MediaGrid - Content-Aware, Active Storage for the Enterprise

IBM DS5000 Series - Real-World Performance for Virtualized Systems

IBM SAN Volume Controller - Optimizing Storage Utilization and Availability
IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC) is a network-based storage virtualization solution with over 13,000 appliances shipped running in more than 4,300 systems worldwide. This report documents the results of ESG Lab testing of IBM SVC performed in 2006 with a focus on the fundamentals of network based storage virtualization including ease of use, non-disruptive virtualization, data mobility and copy services. The enhanced storage utilization and availability capabilities of SVC 4.3 as validated by ESG Lab in 2008 are also presented.
Digi-Data T-4000 - Active Archive and Utility Storage
The Digi-Data T-4000 is a modular high-performance storage system designed for large digital archives, utility storage, and active secondary storage. This ESG Lab report examines the enhanced manageability, scalability, performance, and fault tolerance of the Digi-Data T-4000 along with a valuable capability called Drive Power Management (DPM) that reduces power and cooling requirements by spinning down inactive drives.
Dell PowerVault DP100 - Hands-Free Data Protection
ESG Lab evaluated a Dell PowerVault DP100 as part of an IT consolidation project currently underway at our corporate headquarters in Milford, MA. ESG is a proto-typical small business with thirty local employees and six remote users. In addition, at any given time, a number of employees are either mobile or working from home. ESG relies on a number of applications commonly used by small businesses, including Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Business Contact Manager and Office Accounting.
Dell PowerVault NF100 - File Sharing Made Simple
The Dell PowerVault NF100 storage server is a convenient and cost-effective solution for file sharing. This ESG Lab Validation report explores how the NF100, with pre-configured RAID and pre-installed Microsoft Windows Storage Server software, can be deployed and sharing files in less than 15 minutes. This report also explores how the NF100 can be used as a backup and recovery platform for local, remote and mobile users.
